Neuropathy (Nerve Disease)

Diabetic neuropathy primarily affects the peripheral nerves, often manifesting as leg and foot problems. Common symptoms of neuropathy include pain, tingling, and numbness, but some people experience no symptoms at all. A lack of sensation can lead to untended wounds, which can deteriorate, become infected, and sometimes require amputation.

By doing so, foot ulcers can be prevented—or at least identified early—and measures can be taken to facilitate healing and avoid infection and amputation.
