For adults with diabetes who need high doses of insulin, Sanofi’s Toujeo provides a solution. With three times as much insulin per milliliter (U-300) as standard insulin (U-100), Toujeo allows for a smaller volume of insulin with each injection. Now, the Food and Drug Administration has approved the medication for kids over the age of 6. Available in both 450- and 900-unit pens, Toujeo is an ultra-long-acting basal insulin, which works to keep blood glucose in check overnight and between meals. If you have a child with diabetes who needs large doses of basal insulin, talk to a doctor to see if this new option could be a good fit for your child’s diabetes management plan.
