Eat Slower to Spur Weight Loss
Need to lose weight? Eat slowly. Researchers reviewed annual health surveys sent between 2008 and 2013 to 59,717 middle-aged Japanese men and women with type 2 diabetes. Most participants completed at least two of the surveys, which assessed lifestyle and health issues, including weight and eating habits. Participants who described themselves as slow eaters were 42 percent less likely to be obese than self-identified fast eaters; normal-speed eaters had a 29 percent lower risk of obesity than fast eaters. The researchers speculate that unhurried eaters feel full before overindulging. Try this: To slow down, chew mindfully and savor each bite, which will help you feel satisfied before you overeat.
