Meditation Can Help With Weight Loss
Add mindfulness meditation to your efforts to slim down: It can help you shed pounds and keep them off. Canadian researchers analyzed 19 studies on the link between mindfulness and weight loss, involving a total of 1,160 overweight or obese participants, 52 of whom had type 2 diabetes. Mindfulness, in which you pay close, nonjudgmental attention to the present moment, helped the participants (mostly young women) lose an average of 3.5 percent of their body weight. Separate diet and exercise programs led to slightly greater weight loss, but participants in those regained some of the weight once the studies ended. The meditators, on the other hand, continued to lose weight even after the studies ended.
