Diets High in Essential Oils May Help Prevent Type 2
Could eating nuts and soybean and sunflower oils help prevent type 2 diabetes? Those foods all contain linoleic acid, which is essential for health. Researchers analyzed findings from 20 studies in 10 countries, involving 39,740 adults who didn’t have diabetes when the study began. In the years that followed, 4,347 people developed type 2 diabetes. Those whose blood had shown the highest levels of linoleic acid at the start of the study were the least likely to develop type 2 diabetes. The reason for the link isn’t known, but the substance may help make the body’s cells more sensitive to insulin, in part by reducing inflammation.
