Steady Weight Loss Is Better Than Yo-Yo Dieting
Drop the same amount of weight each week—even if it’s just a pound—and you will see better long-term results than if your weight loss fluctuates. Among 183 overweight and obese adults, most of whom were women and whose average age was 51, those whose weight yo-yoed during the first six and 12 weeks of a weight-loss study maintained much less control of their weight over the following two years compared with more consistent losers. Advice to follow: Make small increases in physical activity and reductions in calories that you can stick to, and skip demanding, radical weight-loss regimens.
