Make Your Exercise Fun

To reach your fitness goals, redefine exercise. Researchers interviewed 40 Latino, African American, and white women ages 22 to 49. Some were highly active, while others were only slightly active. The latter considered exercise an obligation that required vigorous workouts and cut into precious leisure time. That negative attitude, researchers believe, primed them to skimp on exercise. The active women were more laid back about physical activity. They maintained flexible exercise schedules and viewed their workouts as a chance to relax and socialize—think walks or bike rides with family or friends. The lesson: Find physical activities that make you happy, and don’t sweat the intensity.
