Exercise Gear Affects Your Workouts
Think exercise is hard? Positive thoughts about your workout clothes and rewards can change that perception. Among 78 men and women without diabetes, ages 18 to 32, those shown short films that hyped the health benefits of 30 minutes of cycling found such exercise much less strenuous than those who watched films warning they wouldn’t see any benefits of the exercise. If you don’t consider yourself athletic, even moderate exercise may seem extra tough. The study authors suggest this trick: Choose exercise gear you believe enhances performance. Less athletically confident participants reported easier workouts when wearing shirts alleged to boost endurance, even though the shirts had no such qualities.
