Boost Your Mood With Light Exercise
Feeling down? Don’t sweat it. Light activities, such as a relaxing bike ride, will improve your mood. In a recent study, 419 participants without diabetes, whose average age was 44, wore activity trackers for four days and then described how they felt. They were sedentary, on average, for about 18 hours per day. Not surprisingly, those who did no exercise were the most likely to feel depressed. Light exercisers, by contrast, reported the highest levels of psychological well-being. The lesson: Physical activity improves health and boosts feel-good brain chemicals. A little goes a long way, especially if you spend most of your day sitting down.
