Workouts Tailored to You Can Prevent Plateaus
To avoid weight-loss plateaus, choose a workout designed just for you. Fitness researchers recruited 46 inactive men and women, ages 44 to 83, for a 13-week study. One-third did workouts tailored to each participant’s exercise capacity, needs, and goals. Another third joined a standardized exercise program. All did a combination of cardio and strength training. The remainder did not exercise at all. More than a third of those in the standardized program stopped improving during the study, though researchers weren’t sure why. But everyone in the personalized group continued to see improvements in body fat, waist circumference, blood glucose, blood pressure, and other health markers. With exercise, one size does not fit all.
