Weight-Loss Coaching Over the Phone Improves BMI
Weight loss may be only a phone call away. In a California-based study, 954 overweight and obese adults, age 53 on average and mostly female, received over-the-phone weight-loss coaching, which involved education, motivation, and planning. The participants’ body mass index (BMI, a ratio of weight to height used to estimate body fat) dropped significantly over the next year. Similar adults who did not receive coaching saw no drop in their BMI. (Researchers didn’t account for socioeconomic status, though.) Best bet: Check with your health insurer to see if coaching to aid your weight-loss efforts is available.
