Play Tennis, Live Longer
Tennis, swimming, and dancing may help you live a longer, healthier life. Researchers surveyed 80,000 people, whose average age was 52, about the physical activity they did in the previous month. After an average of nine years, researchers evaluated participants’ health records. Racquet sports like tennis nearly halved their risk of early death from any cause. Swimming and aerobics (think Zumba or other dance fitness routines) cut their risk by more than 25 percent. All three activities offered even better odds of preventing death from heart disease and stroke than sports such as running or cycling. The study didn’t prove cause and effect, but clearly exercise is good for living.
