Beans Are Better for Weight Loss
Want to feel fuller? Eat beans and skip meat—and you may lose weight, too. Researchers in Denmark served three different breakfasts (with similar calorie and fat contents but with slight variations in grams of carb), spaced at least two weeks apart, to 43 normal-weight men ages 18 to 40. The result: Patties made from high-fiber beans and peas satisfied the participants’ hunger better than pork and veal patties. And, compared with the meat eaters, the bean eaters ate 12 percent fewer calories of the pasta Bolognese they were served for lunch. A fiber-rich, bean-based meal could be a recipe for helping you eat fewer calories later.
