10 Minutes to Better Heart Health
Improve your heart health in mere minutes. In Ontario, Canada, 23 sedentary but healthy women, whose average age was 24, did one of two stair-climbing exercises three times a week for six weeks: three 20-second bursts of all out stair-climbing, with two minutes of rest in between, or three 60-second intense runs up and down one flight of stairs, each followed by a 60-second rest. The first boosted the women’s peak oxygen capacity by 12 percent; the second exercise by 8 percent. That’s a dramatic increase in heart fitness. The best part: It takes about 10 minutes to do either exercise, including warm-up and cooldown, and you’re done.
