Weight-Loss Benefits Linger After Regain
Regaining the pounds you lost isn’t all bad: A study found that people who put weight back on after losing it managed to maintain certain health benefits. Fifty overweight and obese participants without diabetes spent six months on a diet while researchers tracked how they got healthier. The researchers continued to monitor the participants’ health for an average of two years after the diet. While most people regained the weight they’d lost, they kept the lower levels of liver fat and an improved response to insulin that they’d achieved during the weight-loss program.
