Some Kids Unaware They Are Overweight

More than a quarter of overweight kids don’t know they have a weight problem, a study found. Of 2,613 children ages 8 to 15, nearly 40 percent were overweight or obese. But just 19 percent reported that they thought they were overweight, as did 19 percent of their parents. The kids who accurately reported their weight were over three times more likely to say that they were trying to lose weight than those who underestimated their weight. Parents’ perception didn’t influence their child’s weight loss attempts.
