Wine Linked to Heart Health in Type 2 Diabetes
Drinking wine has been linked to heart health in the general population, but is the same true for people with type 2 diabetes? A new five-year study of 11,140 people with type 2 diabetes suggests the answer is yes. Australian researchers found that those who drank moderate amounts of wine—about 5 drinks per week was the midpoint of the consumption range*—had a 22 percent lower risk of heart problems and a 23 percent reduced chance of death from any cause compared with nondrinkers. But best not to overdo it: Greater amounts of wine eliminated the benefit.
