Go Outside for Weight Loss

Mike Watson Images/Thinkstock

Want to weigh less? Try spending more time outside in the morning. Researchers measured light exposure, activity, sleep, and diet in 54 adults for seven days. They found that body mass index (a measure that incorporates weight and height) was lower among those whose exposure to outdoor light happened earlier rather than later in the day, regardless of how long the people slept or when they went to bed and woke. What’s behind this link isn’t known, although light exposure has been shown to affect hormones that regulate both sleep and appetite.
