Community Leader: Julie Guerra

Julie Guerra

Julie Guerra

Age: 45

Location: Corpus Christi, Texas

She’s the human resources director for Nueces County, Texas, and a two-time Call to Congress participant. She will soon become her local advocacy chair. Guerra doesn’t live with diabetes herself, but it touches her life. And she says it touches everyone in one way or another.

How she started: Guerra started out as the team captain for her office’s Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes® team. From there, she rode in the Tour de Cure®, volunteered on the Step Out committee, and became involved with her local community leadership board. She attended Call to Congress in 2011 and 2013.

Encouraging words: “Surely, somebody knows of a friend or family member or an acquaintance that has been affected by [diabetes]. They can reach out to the ADA, and they can get involved. That would be great.”
