Top Garden Workouts: Digging and Raking

Now that spring has sprung, kids have another way to get active. Researchers asked 17 children between the ages of 11 and 13 to complete various gardening tasks. The study examined how physically intense each of the 10 tasks was. Digging and raking both ranked as high-intensity exercise while other aspects of gardening—such as weeding, hoeing, mulching, sowing seeds, harvesting, and watering—counted as moderate-intensity exercise.
