Thrilling Tales

By Kelly Rawlings, Editorial Director ,

I have to admit, skydiving and solo sailing have never been on my bucket list, but I was able to enjoy some armchair adventures while editing this issue. We profile five people with diabetes who take part in extreme sports. One thing is clear after learning about their jumping, sailing, trekking, biking, and roller-skating exploits: Being in control of blood glucose levels and prepared for emergencies is essential for major escapades and also for everyday life. I hope that reading their stories and other articles in this issue will help you feel ready for wherever life takes you.

If your next big adventure involves air travel, know that the American Diabetes Association works hard to make sure that people traveling with diabetes—and all our medical gear—are treated fairly during airport security screenings. We have an update on Transportation Security Administration procedures and resources for travelers.

Perhaps cooking new things is thrill enough for you? Food Editor Robyn Webb dares to grill romaine lettuce and chill soup, among other lovely, fresh recipes in this issue. Enjoy!
