Early Lunch Leads to More Weight Loss
Forget the concept of taking a late lunch. Researchers who studied the eating habits of 420 men and women on a 20-week weight-loss program learned that people who lunch early drop more pounds. The study split participants into those who regularly ate lunch before 3 p.m. and those who typically ate later. Though both groups consumed similar amounts of calories, ate the same types of foods, exercised and slept equal amounts, and had similar appetite hormones, the early eaters lost 22 pounds (about 11 percent of their body weight) while late eaters lost 17 pounds (9 percent of their body weight). The researchers aren’t sure why early eaters fared better.
