Custom Shoes Ease Diabetic Neuropathy

Custom shoes can protect people with diabetic neuropathy (nerve damage resulting in pain or loss of sensation) from foot wounds that won't heal and get infected. Yet, according to a study, people don't wear such shoes often enough. Researchers looked at how often more than 100 people with diabetes, neuropathy, and recently healed foot ulcers wore their therapeutic shoes as well as how many steps they took per day. Participants took nearly a third of all steps without wearing prescribed shoes. What's more, people were more likely to skip wearing the shoes at home, where they took the most steps per day.
