Fitter Kids Tend to Be Smarter, Too
Kids who exercise do better in school. That’s what researchers found when they analyzed math and reading scores and fitness test results from more than 11,700 elementary and middle school students from 47 public schools in Nebraska. Aerobically fit kids were 2.4 times as likely to pass the state math test and 2.2 times as likely to pass the reading exam as their unfit peers. Interestingly, body mass index (a ratio of weight to height) didn’t correlate in any way with test scores.
