Diet and Exercise Are Best for Shedding Pounds
Diet and exercise are a winning combo when it comes to weight loss, according to a study based on data from 11 participants on the reality TV show The Biggest Loser. Using a computer simulation, the researcher found that although calorie restrictions alone led to a 75-pound weight loss in six months—65 percent of it from body fat—they resulted in decreased muscle mass. Exercise, on the other hand, accounted for trimming 60 pounds, all from fat. Because muscle is essential, the best way to shed weight is with a combination of eating fewer calories and regular physical activity.
