Nuts Fit in a Healthy Meal Plan
Diets that include nuts may not enlarge waistlines, according to an analysis of 31 previous studies. Nuts are rich in calories and fat, and some people fear that even though nuts contain good fats and fiber, eating them can lead to packing on the pounds. Researchers analyzed studies that compared diets with and without nuts. They found no evidence that eating nuts increases waist circumference, body weight, or body mass index (a rough estimate of total body fat). The authors concluded that nuts can be part of a heart-healthy meal plan as long as the calories from nuts are taken into account.
