It’s Safety First for Kids on Thrill Rides

’Tis the season for family vacations, but if you’re headed to an amusement park, take note: Rides can be dangerous. In a review of data on amusement park, fair, carnival, and mall rides from 1990 to 2010, researchers learned that more than 92,800 children under 18 were treated in emergency rooms for ride-related injuries—an average of about 4,400 each year. It’s smart to be cautious, such as by making sure that children meet the height requirements before they go on a ride and that pumps and meters are safely stowed.
