It's Best to See Your Own Doctor
Get better diabetes care by seeing the health care provider who knows you best. A study found that family or internal medicine practices successfully help people manage their disease—provided that patients see their own doctor. Researchers analyzed two years of data on nearly 585,000 doctor visits by more than 27,000 people with diabetes. Participants were more likely to start a new medication or have their medication dose increased if they visited their usual doc than if they saw another provider in the office (including a different doctor, a nurse, or a physician assistant). Patients' usual doctors also were more likely than other providers to give advice on lifestyle changes.
