Habitual exercisers with type 1 diabetes who added resistance training to their cardio workouts gained strength and trimmed inches off their waistline in a 22-week study. The additional weight lifting failed to lower blood glucose levels or improve blood fat levels, however. This suggests that in type 1 diabetes, regular cardiovascular exercise may be enough, at least for controlling blood glucose and cholesterol.
