Yoga Calms Teenage Angst
High school students who took a course in yoga instead of a regular gym class got a mood boost, a small study found. The yoga class, taken two to three times a week, focused on poses, breathing exercises, relaxation, and meditation. After 10 weeks, yoga students felt less tense and anxious, while kids taking plain old gym during the same period experienced an increase in angst. The participants reported liking yoga, too. Researchers say the practice may be a fun way for teens to get some exercise, reduce stress, and feel better.
