Make Time for Children to Play

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say children should get an hour of exercise a day, but a study of nearly 9,000 U.S. preschoolers found that half of the children weren't taken outside to play even once a day by a parent. Girls had a 16 percent lower chance of being taken out to play than boys. Surprisingly, more time spent in front of a screen—computer, TV, or otherwise—wasn't associated with less playtime.
