Making Healthy Foods Fun for Kids
Just as fun characters help sell processed food to children, familiar cartoons can get kids to eat healthy foods, too. During five days of testing, researchers gave 200 elementary schoolchildren a choice between a cookie and an apple, one or both of which had an Elmo sticker. Kids were twice as likely to choose an apple when it had a sticker on it as when neither food item had a sticker. Interestingly, adding a sticker to the cookie didn't encourage the kids to eat more cookies.
