Low Blood Glucose Not Linked to Heart Disease
Maintaining tight blood glucose control can come at a cost: severe hypoglycemia, low blood glucose that requires assistance to treat. People with type 1 diabetes who've struggled with episodes of low blood glucose can rest a little easier, though. In contrast to previous reports, a study found no evidence that severe hypoglycemia harms the heart. Researchers asked 2,181 people with type 1 diabetes about their history of severe hypoglycemia and then monitored their heart health for the next seven years. They found no association between low blood glucose episodes and heart disease. Still, if you have severe hypoglycemia, talk to your doctor about ways to prevent it.
