Curbing Obesity Through Therapy
A little therapy might help curb the obesity epidemic. In a pilot study, 79 percent of overweight teenage girls who went to 12 group therapy sessions over six months gained less weight than expected, compared with just 47 percent of those who attended traditional health classes. The therapy sessions focused on improving the teenagers' interpersonal relationships, on the theory that social and emotional issues can trigger overeating or bingeing.
