Bret Michaels in Critical Condition
Rocker and reality TV star Bret Michaels remains in critical condition today after being hospitalized with a brain hemorrhage on April 22. Michaels, the front man for the glam band Poison, is starring in NBC's Celebrity Apprentice. He was also touring to promote a solo album, Custom Built, which is due out June 8, when an emergency appendectomy on April 12 forced him to reschedule concert dates.
Michaels, 47, has had type 1 diabetes since he was 6 years old. It is not clear whether the hemorrhage was related to his diabetes or to the appendectomy, or neither.
Michaels can still be seen on Celebrity Apprentice, which has finished taping. Celebrities compete on the show to benefit charities of their choice. In the season's first episode, Michaels raised $100,000 for the American Diabetes Association.
According to an update that his tour manager, Janna Elias, posted on Michaels's website, doctors have yet to identify the source of the brain hemorrhage. They are expected to release a report sometime this week. Michaels is on 24-hour surveillance in the intensive care unit at an undisclosed hospital.
