Ingredients

1/4 cup unsweetened natural cocoa powder
3 Tbsp. turbinado sugar
1/8 tsp. sea salt
1/3 cup water
3 1/2 cups low-fat milk
3/4 tsp. pure vanilla extract
1/8 tsp. pure almond extract (optional)

Directions

  1. Whisk the cocoa, sugar, salt, and water together in a medium saucepan over medium heat until the mixture boils. Boil, whisking, for 30 seconds.
  2. Pour in the milk and whisk for 5 minutes or until hot—but don't let the milk boil.
  3. Remove from heat, add vanilla and almond extract (if using), and pour into a heatproof pitcher. Chill. Stir or lightly shake before serving.
