Sexual Dysfunction and Diabetes
Can’t seem to get in the mood? You’re not alone. A study of 652 middle-aged women with type 1 diabetes found that 35 percent experienced some form of sexual dysfunction, most commonly a loss of libido and problems with orgasm. The researchers didn’t show that diabetes caused these problems. Unlike men with diabetes, whose erectile dysfunction is linked to high blood glucose and disease complications, female sexual dysfunction is associated with being depressed, and is more common in married women. If your desire is waning or you’re having other sexual problems, talk to your doctor about possible treatments.
